As the
gates opened to my home I looked backed at the street behind us and I still
wanted to run back to Paris. Sitting
between James and I Mi Sun and Jae Hwa had fallen asleep. The gates closed
behind the car I noticed a guy on the street snapping pictures in our
direction,
“James, that man there, he’s taking pictures…”
“Yes I saw
him already, he’s followed us since the airport.”
Panic…Panic,
had some one beside my Soon Yi found out my return. I asked the driver to stop
the car, quickly I jumped out and ran back to the gate but the suspicious man
had already gone. Back inside the car James saw my nervousness and was fast to
sooth my anxiety.
“Sunny don’t worry I will contact Patrick in the morning
to see about having more security for both you and the girls. I will also find
out who the guy with the camera was.”
I just
nodded my head, rubbing my hands togethers to sooth myself. We hadn’t been back
two hours and already I wanted to scream at the top of my lungs. It would be
impossible to live here and not run into Kim Jae Hwa or Kim Young Min. Should I
pick up the phone and call him? What would I say, “Oh sorry for taking off five
years ago and by the way you have twin daughters.” Patrick said I should face
it so I can move on, but im still not ready to face that pain. I also knew that
if Young Min had been looking for me all these years, if he found me he
wouldn’t let go so easily and I won’t be able to run. No need to worry myself
unnecessarily. If he finds out that I am back then so be it, but he can never
find out about Jae Hwa and Mi Sun.
Kim
Young Min
My door was
opened before the car could stop at the door. Leaving my back and papers for
work, I made a dash for my fathers office, bursting through his door with
excitement with the pictures from Detective Jang. My father stood immediately
and without properly greeting him I say,
“I found her, She’s back in Korea!”
“Found
who? What’s going on?”
“Choi Eun Sun has come back. Look, just look!”
I put the
pictures on his desk, as he flipped through each picture one by one I explained
to father how I found out and about having Detective Jang follow her from the
airport to her house in Guri. Even fathers eyes lit up with joy at seeing Eun
Suns picture, but then he held up the picture of the two children.
“She has children now, and a man, do you think that it
is appropriate for you to go looking for her?”
“Father
she had those babies seven months after leaving the country. I am almost
certain that they are mines.”
“Then what are you planning to do?”
“I plan on
going to Guri to confront her. Why five years? Why did she leave with out
saying a word?”
Just as I
was about to say more mother walked into the office still full of herself,
still believing that she had control of our lives and the house. Father quickly
put the pictures in his drawer.
“Did I
interrupt your conversation, it sounded important?”
Neither father nor I answered her. She took a seat
across from me. Mothers’ beauty was very deceiving she smiled and asked for a
cup of tea. Her presence changed the mood and aura in the office. Even after
all these years father still had nothing to say to her nor did I want to be in
her company. Out of respect I dealt with it and held my tongue from being
poisonous towards her. Instead I starred at her to see what she would say next.
“Oh my son
do you have to look at me like that. It’s been five years already. The most you
can do is smile when I enter the house, at least pretend to still love me.”
“Mother
what have you made this visit for?”
“I heard that your princess has returned with a
foreigner and two brats. Seems she’s been in Paris all this time.”
“And what
does this have to do with you coming here to tell me something I already know.”
She slid
closer to the edge of her chair frowned her face and says,”
“I came to
warn you before you make another move towards that woman. If you even think
about bringing her here or meeting her you will regret the day I gave birth to
you. I will end that Choi Eun Sun once and for all. If you think what I did
five years ago was bad, I’m ten times as dangerous now than before.”
Was this
woman really my mother? Was she serious about destroying a woman that did
nothing to her? Maybe she was or maybe she was trying to scare me. Either way
every one knew that she no longer had the same clout as she did five years ago.
In my own defense,
“Mother
you shouldn’t live like this. Remember this; the land this house sits on
belongs to me. The guesthouse you now reside in now belongs to me. The water
you use everyday I pay for the electricity that you use I pay for, that meager
allowance that you think father gives to you every month comes from my
accounts. My warning to you is don’t bite the hand that feeds you. Going
against me, you will only ruin yourself. Yes you are my mother, but this is my
life and you no longer have control over it.”
“Kim Young
Min…! Are you going to allow this ingrate to talk to me this way?”
“This is
of your own creation Hyun Jae. I warned you years ago not to make Young Min
hate you. My hands are tied. Try being his mother and not his enemy.”
With that she stormed out of the office and returned to the
guesthouse. My mother is a dangerous woman but I will not allow her to hurt Eun
Sun a second time.
